Truck Equipment 101

COURSE INFORMATION/LOGISTICS/REQUIREMENTS

Course cost:  $0 (members) / $199 (nonmembers)

Successful completion of this course will qualify for .2 IACET CEU Credit.

This course, made up of 15 video-based modules, is designed to provide industry professionals with an overview of the work truck industry, insight into the systems that make up a truck and the basic regulatory requirements applicable for U.S. and Canadian markets. View each at your own pace, individually or in succession. Participants will receive a certificate after completing a course evaluation. Truck Equipment 101 qualifies for NTEA’s Member Verification Program (MVP) education credit. There are no prerequisites to take this online course and no special technology skills required. After each module, the learner will be expected to complete a knowledge check question before moving on to the next module. At the end of the course, the learner will be required to complete an evaluation in order to receive a certificate of completion. 

Our online learning center can be accessed using any browser and device (including tablets and mobile). This is an asynchronous learning course that may be accessed 24/7. You will be able to complete the course and access all content until a period of 1 year after the date of purchase. It shall be the policy of NTEA to maintain the privacy and security of learner records. Your training records will be retained for a period of seven (7) years from the date of completion and can be accessed by using your login information. Learner accounts are not deleted and can always be accessed. Training records will only be released to the learner. Internet Requirements

A minimum download speed of 1.5 Mbps is required, which is commonly the speed associated with a basic DSL or a cellular/satellite connection. A faster connection, such as cable or fiber service, will further enhance your online experience.

  • Identify what an axle is and its role in a truck’s function.
  • Describe why the frame is considered the backbone of a truck.
  • Identify the elements of a work truck brake system.
  • Identify the fundamentals of tires, wheels and suspension.
  • Explain how truck bodies and equipment work together to ensure proper truck function.
  • Describe how the electrical system in a truck produces, stores and transmits energy.
  • Identify the different forms of technology impacting the work truck industry.
  • Explain why various laws and regulations ensure that all motor vehicles sold meet specific safety standards, fuel economy, and emission regulations.  
  • Identify how information can be applied when creating truck specifications to meet a desired functionality.  
  • Describe the mission of NTEA and extensive technical support resources and programs.
